Royal China: Reviews & Ratings
Late post, Dinners with Dad, unexpected edition, episode 819…in town for a week long workshop but found time to sneak away for dinner with dad…he said he was kind of tired or eating Korean food all the time so asked me to pick something else…so dim sum it was! Originally, we were headed to the spot behind Home Depot on Pleasant Hill but at the last minute he mentioned this place by Costco on Venture so that’s where we went! Parking lot was pretty empty at 6:30 which gave us pause but we were hungry and decided to give it a shot. Tons of staff so we were greeted and treated like royalty! We ordered a sampling of food, some to take home to mom, all of it was hot, fresh and delicious! If you find yourself in the area, give them a shot! If you want to host a banquet, they have a beautiful space for it!
Dim Sum and a la cart are delicious and mouthful quality! I love food & people here, great services.I will be back. Thank you.
Royal China Restaurant offers a pleasant dining atmosphere with attentive and friendly service. Staff members frequently check in, though sometimes encourage ordering more items than necessary. The overall taste of the food is average—certainly not the best in town. Some dishes like Xiao Long Bao and radish cake suffered from being kept warm for too long, losing their freshness. The century egg and pork congee tasted a bit off, possibly due to overly large chunks of century egg or an inadequately handled meat flavor. Nonetheless, it’s still a decent place for a casual meal. Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) Good environment and service, but there’s room for improvement in food freshness.
The most important thing is that the food was great. We ordered quite a bit and the portions were huge so we have a lot left over. But, the service was a bit aggressive. Upon arriving, we said it was our first time dining there. The menu is large. Within approximately 10 minutes, we were asked if we were ready to order at least 5 times, each time responding that it was our first time and it would take a while to review the menu. And we arrived right at opening, at 5:30, and there weren’t people waiting so no need to be so rushed (no one waiting when we left either). And we were only given the large main menu. We came because we knew they had dim sum. I asked where the dim sum was on the menu (as I didn’t see any) and the waitress pointed at one item on the large menu. I explained that I saw online that there were more dim sum options and she then brought us the separate dim sum menu. On 2 occasions the waitress refilled my daughter’s Sprite with water and didn’t offer to bring her another Sprite. When the check came, we gave a card and when it was returned to sign, we put in cash for the tip but before we could sign, they grabbed the check holder so the cashier had to come back with it so we could sign. Nothing was overly alarming, just a bit rushed overall but there was one gentleman who was very friendly and provided great service with no rush (several people came to our table).
Came in during the the last week of the year on a weekday during dinner and had no complaints while I was hear. Maybe I dont know what to expect or why but the I did notice that the servers almost seemed to rush us to make our order. Idk why but it seemed that way as they asked us 3-4times. We just informed them that it was our 1st time there and they worked with us. But, we order alot of food. Atleast 10 entrees if not more. I was very impressed with their service though. They knew that we had ordered alot of food and got creative and found ways to ensure that all of our food made it to everyones plates and center rotating table. Everything was made so well that I cant give them a negative review on anything...and we ordered alot. We ordered so much that there should have been room for error but they got it all perfect. That speaks to their excellence. If I lived in the area, id be here once a month if not every other weekend. Definitely recommend.
We ate a lot of food that has meaning and special. I wanted to try all of the dim sum and it was just so delicious.
best dim sum in town, if not entire Southeast. Have been going here regularly. Saturday morning is their best time, since the selection could be limited on other days. People there are professional, but not as welcoming as cheesecake factory. You won't be bothered if you don't expect to be greeted anyway. Focus on the food.
My friend Aidan put us on the salted egg yolk crusted shrimp - TOP TIER MUST GET. Everything else was good but not mind blowing - have had better salted egg yolk buns, shumai, and shrimp dumplings in nyc (Dim Sum Palace is better). Steamed egg dish was a huge portion size, wasn’t a huge fan of the glass noodles at the bottom, but flavor was good. Dinner dim sum didn’t have many options, but their lunch menu is bomb. Inside is super fancy w/ chandeliers - could be a wedding banquet venue
